The IRF Executive calls for Expressions of Interest (EoI) to host 21st World Rogaining Championship in 2029. Countries wishing to conduct the WRC must submit an Expression of Interest (EoI) by 31 March 2026.

Expressions of Interest must be in accordance with the guidelines in the Requirements for Expressions of Interest.

World Rogaining Championships can only be conducted under the technical and organizational supervision of an IRF Member. However, it is not necessary that the WRC be conducted in the country of the IRF Member providing this supervision. The IRF strongly encourages:

  • IRF Members to consider conducting WRCs in neighbouring countries who are not IRF Members but where quality rogaining terrain exists
  • Rogaining groups from non-IRF Member countries to partner with an IRF Member to conduct a WRC in their country
  • IRF Members to actively seek opportunities to partner with rogaining groups from non-IRF Member countries and support them to conduct a WRC

If you are interested in submitting an Expression of Interest and have questions, please contact the IRF World Championships Manager.

This is an exciting opportunity for a country to show off a special or unique area to a large number of rogainers around the world, to bring associated tourism to your country, and provide a world class event for local competitors. Hosting the World Rogaining Championships puts your chosen region on a map for many people.

NATIONAL ROGAINE CHAMPS - Report

Date: Saturday, 22nd November 2025
Location: Lake McKay Station, Luggate (near Wanaka, South Island)

This year’s national championship was held in a truly stunning location in perfect weather! The terrain stretched from bike trails along the Clutha River right up to 1300m on the Pisa Range with views of lakes and snowy mountains of Central Otago. Route planning presented challenges with steep valleys, rocky bluffs and impenetrable bush between ridges. If you’ve never rogained in NZ you will not have experienced the vicious delights of rampant matagouri bushes, gorse and briar roses. On the flat, careful navigation was required when overgrown farm tracks dived off bike trails.

Organiser Terry Davis, of Highland Events, had to make a late change of location. He had planned to use the Snow Farm, a cross-country ski area in the Pisa Conservation Area, but had permission refused by the Department of Conservation due to the presence of nesting Banded Dotterel birds.

Entries were affect by the Godzone Adventure Race being held less than a week later, cutting out some of the stars, with 40 teams entering the 24 hour event. A 15 Hour option was offered again this year This uses the same map as the 24 Hour but there is a compulsory continuous 7 hour stand down period within the 24 hours, at a time of your choosing. The 6 hour and 3 hour options, on the same course with different controls and different start times, were popular with families and beginners.

Results show some creditable achievements in all categories with the overall winners, Jonty and Tiaan Mckinnel, almost clearing the field!

You can also check out the winning routes on rogaine-results.

The 2025 World Rogaining Championships were hosted in Quintanar de la Sierra, Spain by the Tjalve and IbeRogaine clubs.

An excellent course with beautiful forest and grassy high hills challenged rogainers to pick the optimal course for their strengths. Hills, technical navigation, forest tracks and rocks all provided teams with opportunities to show their skills or to spend time working through the problems of where they were. Many water drops, an All NIght Cafe and big points to be had on the hills meant many teams stayed out all night with lights twinkling all over the course.

WRC25promoEntries are now open for the 19th World Rogaining Championships to be held in Spain on 5-6 July 2025. The event will be hosted by Tjalve Sports Club and IbeRogaine in  the magnificent natural setting known as “Sierra de Pinares” region, in the province of Burgos (Spain), 250km north of Madrid.

The event website has bulletins describing the terrain, accommodation and other information, as well as lots of photos of the area to entice you. We look forward to seeing you in Spain in July!
